Weekly Update for Tom and Cheryl Rees in Thika, Kenya 12-9-10

“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” Eph.5:1-2
The Church Sign is Painted
It has taken a couple of weeks, but the church sign is now completed. It reads, “Calvary Thika Teaching the Word of God.”  People are stopping by to ask about the church.( Continue to pray for Isaac who is working on our work permits and registration.) The bathroom is painted mauve and the office a light green, this week the main room used for the sanctuary will be painted pistachio green on two walls and sand on two walls. The curtains are beige brown. Amos is very excited about the painting because Tom has shown him how to paint and now he can hire himself out as a painter. We will send before and after pictures once completed.
Sound System
Tom and our son, Sean, went to Nairobi this week to pick up the sound system. Sean was able to set it up in our living room so we could give it a try and test the sound. It was amazing! We have a small sound board and one speaker, but they are high quality and will do well in the church. Many thanks to the beloved brothers and sisters who contributed to the sound system we are greatly blessed.
Sean and Melissa have Returned Home
We took Melissa to the doctors here and she received treatment for Malaria and is doing fine in that regard. She then broke out in an allergic reaction to something here, it is better now that she is back home. Pray for her as she goes to the doctor on Tuesday that she is fine with no further issues. Pray for Sean as some work was done on the house where he lives at the Murrieta Bible College, so Sean and the young men he lives with were moved to a dorm room temporarily. They hope to be moved back into the house soon and be ready for Christmas.
Prayer Requests: Pray for Eric and Sheila Ceaser and Family who may be coming to stay with us in Thika in January. Pray for Esther, Gilbert’s wife as she is undergoing treatment this week and must receive shots daily that are giving her migraine headaches. Also for me as I spent time with Esther. Gilbert is very busy at the restaurant with Esther not being able to help, so Tom is going to help out.
May the love of Christ fill your heart and home this Christmas. Love, Tom and Cheryl

Weekly Update

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Prov.3:5-6
Mubeen Asks for Prayer
Mubeen, whom I have written about previousl,y has a shop at the end of our street. He has suffered with discouragement and hopelessness. His shop has not been doing wel,l so he has decided to close and return with his family to Canada where they lived 10 years ago. Canada gave permission for his family to return except for his son who was born in Kenya. He will return to Canada, leaving his family behind and continue to work on permission for his son to come. He has asked for prayer for God to intercede for his family.
More Shops are Closing
There are several small shops across the street where we live. The city has told them to move or they will be bulldozed in 7 days. It is common for people to set up a small shop on vacant property. The shops have been there a long time, but the city has decided they should be removed. Some of the shop owners are distraught not knowing where to go or what will happen to them since this is their only means of making a living. Some have appealed to the city and we are praying for God to intercede on behalf of the shop owners for wisdom and direction.
Prayer for Our Daughter Melissa
Melissa is with us and will be returning to the states on Thursday along with our son, Sean. A few days ago Melissa came down with a fever and now has cold symptoms. She has been tested for malaria, but was negative. We are going to the lab for more testing today. Pray for a complete healing and ability to travel home on Thursday.
Prayer Requests: Pray for Eric and Sheila Ceaser who will be coming to Kenya this week in preparations to begin a new ministry in Africa. Continued prayer for registration for Calvary Thika  as Isaac who is working on our work permits will also be working on the registration. Also we are waiting for the sound system we are purchasing in Nairobi to clear customs.
Blessings to all to receive all that the Holy Spirit has for you this week. Love, Tom & Cheryl
