Weekly Update for Tom and Cheryl Rees in Thika,Kenya 3-23-11
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Eph. 6;10-13
Hospital Stay for Cheryl
On Saturday we went to the emergency room at Inland Valley Medical Center after Cheryl had increasing health issues. The doctor wanted her admitted for testing. She was treated with strong antibiotics for parasites and was found to have swelling in the colon or colitis. There are also acid issues being treated. She is home now and will continue working on her health issues for the next month. Tom will return to Thika at the end of this month to see about the permit. Cheryl will follow later after her health improves.
Prayer for Emmy
Last week when Cheryl was going to the prayer chapel the Lord led her to go to the cafeteria. She noticed a young lady sitting by herself with a thick Bible in another language. Cheryl asked her what language she was reading and she said Japanese. Emmy had been going to the CC Bible College in Japan and was required to take a semester at Murrieta Bible College for completing her course of study. She was very concerned for her family in Japan who are not saved. She was also feeling very lonely. Cheryl invited her to spend time with us. Please pray for Emmy to have peace and know that God will take care of her while she is away from her family in Japan.
Doctor from Japan
While Cheryl was being treated in the hospital one of the doctors who came to see her was from Japan. Cheryl asked if he was a Christian and he said, “Yes.” Then she asked if he would pray for her and he was surprised because no patient had ever asked him for prayer. He prayed for her and for Japan. He said his wife was recently saved and he was going through the scriptures with her about worry. Pray for the doctor and his wife as they are concerned for loved ones in Japan.
Thank You
I would like to thank everyone for all the prayers, phone calls and encouragement through this time. Cheryl and I are overwhelmed with thankfulness for all the wonderful people God has brought into our lives.
Prayer Requests: Please continue to pray for Flo, Tom’s mother, as she grieves the passing of Tom’s father. Pray for Bethany Cathcart, a special friend of our family who is serving as a missionary in Japan at this time. Pray for Tom as he makes arrangements to return to Kenya. Many blessings to all as you put on the full armor of God this week, Tom & Cheryl
